Privacy.
This is an independent community website with no user accounts, no advertising, and no commercial data partners. The privacy story is short, which is the point.
What we collect
The site runs on a standard web server (Microsoft IIS) which, like any web server, automatically records basic technical information about each request: the IP address that made the request, the page requested, the date and time, the browser and operating system reported, and the referring URL if any. This is standard server-log behavior and is retained for operational purposes such as diagnosing site problems and blocking malicious traffic.
We do not:
- Use tracking cookies or third-party advertising cookies
- Run advertising networks or share data with advertisers
- Maintain user accounts or collect personal information from visitors
- Sell, rent, or trade any information about visitors
- Run cross-site tracking pixels
Cookies
The site does not set tracking cookies. If your browser reports a cookie, it is limited to technical session state required for the page to function, is deleted when you close your browser, and is not linked to any identity or tracking profile.
Contact emails
If you email us — via the address on the contact page or the Share a Story page — your email and the content you send is stored in the receiving inbox. It is used only to respond to your inquiry or to attribute contributed content on the site (if you asked for credit). It is not added to any mailing list, because we don't have one.
Contributed content
If you contribute something — a story, photo, correction — and we use it on the site, we will credit you if you asked for credit, keep you anonymous if you asked for that, and remove the contribution if you later change your mind. See the terms of use for the licensing arrangement.
External links
The site links to external organizations — LA City offices, LAUSD, MRCA, the Tuna Canyon Detention Station Coalition, Theodore Payne Foundation, and others. Those sites have their own privacy practices. Following a link off this site means you're subject to whatever they do, not what we do.
Children
The site is general-audience, has no accounts, and does not knowingly collect information from anyone — including children under 13. If you're a parent and have a question about something your child saw or did here, email us at the address on the contact page.
Changes to this policy
If this policy meaningfully changes, the "last reviewed" date at the top of this page will change with it. Small corrections (typos, clarification) may happen without a date update.
